This is significantly higher than the national average of about 19.5. Among admitted students, the 25th percentile score is a 29. In contrast, the 75th percentile is a composite score of 33.

This means that the lowest 25% of scorers achieved a 29 or below, and the highest 25% had a 33 or above. These numbers demonstrate UConn’s high standards but also show that there is no single score that guarantees admission.

We’ll review your essay

Receive edits in as little as 24 hours

LEARN MORECONSULTANTS FROM

What is the average ACT English score at the University of Connecticut?

The ACT composite score is the average of the scores a student achieves on each of the four test sections: English, mathematics, reading, and science. Here, we will break down the UConn ACT English and Math score statistics.

The average ACT English score at UConn is 33. Further, the 25th and 75th percentiles fall at 28 and 35, respectively. This means that a score of 35 or above would place you in the highest quarter of scorers, while a score of 28 or below would place you in the lowest quarter.

What is the average ACT Math score at the University of Connecticut?

The average ACT Math score for UConn is 29. Meanwhile, the 25th percentile sits at 26. In addition, the 75th percentile reaches a strong 32. Therefore, a score of 32 or higher would place you in the top 25% of scorers at UConn, while a score of 26 or lower would place you in the bottom 25%.

Although these scores are a bit lower than the average English section scores, they are still well above the national averages. Thus, they similarly reflect UConn’s high expectations for applicants while also demonstrating that no one score is required for admission.

What are UConn’s ACT requirements?

For the incoming classes through the fall 2026 admission cycle, UConn has adopted a test-optional policy. This means that applicants are not required to submit standardized test scores. However, applicants can choose to submit their SAT or ACT scores if they believe these scores reflect their academic abilities.

Applicants must submit official SAT scores through the testing agency if they want their scores considered during the application review. Note that the ACT Writing section is neither required nor used in the application process.

More details about UConn SAT requirements can be found on their Test Optional FAQs webpage.

What percentage of UConn applicants submit the ACT?

Among students admitted to UConn, around 4% submitted ACT scores. Moreover, roughly 37% submitted SAT scores. The remaining 59% did not submit either. This shows that more than nine times as many students opted to submit SAT scores over ACT scores. At the same time, many applicants also take advantage of the test-optional policy.

Regardless of whether you choose to submit SAT scores, ACT scores, or no scores at all, you won’t be penalized for your choice.

Should I go test-optional?

Deciding whether to submit SAT or ACT scores is a personal choice. A strong score can enhance an application, but omitting a score will not disadvantage an applicant. Therefore, we recommend that students take the SAT or ACT if they have the means to do so. If the scores are competitive, they can boost the application. If not, they can choose to omit the scores without penalty.

Consider your scores in the context of UConn’s average scores. If your scores fall within or above the 25th to 75th percentile ranges, they are likely worth submitting. Ultimately, the decision should be based on your individual strengths and goals.

Does UConn superscore the ACT?

UConn superscores the ACT. This means that they combine the highest scores from each subsection across multiple test dates to formulate the best overall score. This policy can benefit students who have taken the ACT more than once and have varying strengths across test sections.

More information about UConn’s application expectations can be found on their Application Instructions webpage.

What’s a good ACT score for UConn?

UConn does not have specific ACT score requirements or cutoffs. Moreover, the UConn admissions team utilizes a holistic review process. This means that your scores are not evaluated on their own. Instead, the admissions team will consider your scores in the context of your whole background and high school context. Moreover, test results will not be the sole factor in admissions decisions. Instead, the admissions officers will consider all application elements together.

That said, high test scores can only help your case to the admissions team. Demonstrating your English and math capabilities through the ACT will show the admissions team your work ethic and knowledge. But what does a competitive score look like? Considering that 50% of students admitted to UConn scored at or above a composite 31 on their ACT , that would be a good score to shoot for.

Section

25th

50th

75th

Composite

29

31

33

English

28

33

35

Math

26

29

32

Can I get into UConn with a low ACT?

Getting into UConn with a low ACT score is possible, especially with their test-optional policy. If you choose to go test-optional, the admissions team will instead focus on your academic coursework, extracurricular achievements, and personal statement.

Moreover, a lower ACT score does not necessarily preclude admission, as UConn evaluates applicants holistically. However, a “low” ACT score for UConn is still quite high when compared to the national averages. To put that into perspective, the average highschooler achieves around a 19.5 on their ACT. The lowest quarter of admitted UConn students achieved up to a 29 on their ACT . Thus, the lowest quarter of UConn students still probably scored above average. This in mind, it is in your best interest to strive for at least a composite 29 on your ACT.

When should I take the ACT for UConn?

The spring of your junior year is generally considered an ideal time to sit for the ACT. Taking the exam at this time will give you enough time to retake the exam if necessary.

For students applying early in the fall semester, the application deadline is November 1. Given that UConn requires official score submission from the testing agency, you are encouraged to take your last ACT before October.

For students applying during the regular application cycle for the fall semester, the deadline is January 15. Given that UConn requires official score submission from the testing agency, you are encouraged to take your last ACT before December. Doing so will ensure enough time for you to submit your scores to the UConn admission team for evaluation.

What is UConn’s ACT code?

UConn’s ACT code for submitting official test scores is 0604.

While UConn no longer requires applicants to submit ACT or SAT test scores, the standards for those who choose to submit scores are still high. Choosing not to take the exams or to omit scores from an application will not harm an applicant, but sending a good score can only help. Ultimately, the decision of whether to take and submit exam scores is a personal decision to be evaluated in the context of an applicant’s strengths, goals, and priorities.
