University of Georgia’s 2026-2027 Prompts

The University of Georgia does not have a supplemental essay prompt for the 2026-2027 admissions cycle. First-year applicants complete one Common App personal essay (250-650 words) using the standard Common App prompts, and there is no second, UGA-specific essay. In previous cycles, UGA asked applicants to write about a book that made an impact on them during the transition from middle to high school, but that question has been eliminated.

Writing for the University of Georgia Without a Supplemental Essay

For years, the University of Georgia asked applicants to write about a book that shaped them during the transition from middle to high school. That question is gone. In announcing the change on the UGA admissions blog, the admissions team explained that the second essay rarely told them much beyond what the Common App essay already did. So, for the 2026-2027 cycle, your Common App personal essay (250-650 words) is the one piece of writing the University of Georgia will read. Treat it as your single best chance to show the admissions officers who you are beyond your transcript.

Because this essay goes to every school on your list, it should not read like a “Why UGA” essay. Instead, choose one of the seven Common App prompts and tell a story only you could tell. UGA’s admissions team has also said that if writing is one of your real strengths, this change should not hold you back: a strong personal essay still stands out.
